SOLUTION
The Turn Pike is a surrogate toll collection station that enables a union toll collector to perform their official duties from the comfort of their own home, couch, or wherever they are, while maintaining full presence at the physical toll booth via a live VR-enabled telepresence system. The union member is there. They are just not there there. The Turn Pike is designed to be a friendly, firm, and legally recognized enforcer of fine payment and vehicular compliance, preserving union jobs while modernizing the infrastructure around those jobs without eliminating them, which is the correct order of operations. The operator at home wears VR glasses and sees the toll booth environment through the on-unit VR camera. The driver at the booth sees the operator's face broadcast on a weatherproof tablet optimized for iPad, keeping the encounter human, recognizable, and capable of expressing disappointment in real time. Audio communication is handled by a microphone on each end and a bullhorn on the unit end because it is very loud on a turnpike and the driver cannot hear anything. In the event of non-payment, a rude gesture, or a general failure of the interaction to go the way it was supposed to go, the operator can activate Nuke Code Mode from home, which triggers the emergency lights and switches the bullhorn to a 10,000 decibel piercing scream that the Turn Pike documentation describes as a deterrent and the engineering team describes as a liability and both are correct. The Turn Pike mounts to a standard toll booth post or freestanding structure via a multi-hinge articulated arm assembly driven by motorized joints that allow the operator to reposition the unit face toward the driver window without leaving the couch. Television, SUV, and couch are not included.

Latency is under 40 milliseconds in nominal conditions, which is sufficient for VR telepresence and would also be excellent for gaming, though this use case is not officially sanctioned during a shift.
InspectThe VR Glasses are the operator-side wearable display unit of the Turn Pike telepresence system, a standalone mixed-reality headset providing a live stereoscopic feed from the Turn Pike VR Camera at the toll booth, rendered at sufficient resolution and refresh rate that the operator perceives themselves as present at the booth window during the encounter. A MagSafe-compatible wireless charging coil keeps the tablet charged without a cable port that could admit moisture. The tablet itself is operator-supplied and is not included in the Turn Pike unit price because tablets are available everywhere, are cheap relative to the rest of this system, and get upgraded on a consumer cycle that the Turn Pike hardware does not need to track. The enclosure fits the iPad. That is the specification. Other tablets that are approximately the same size fit with varying degrees of confidence that the documentation does not endorse.
