The 100 Gigapixel Camera is the primary biometric capture unit of the So Sure kiosk, a multi-aperture computational imaging array that composites a 100 gigapixel identity photograph from 64 simultaneous sub-aperture captures in a single shutter event lasting 8 milliseconds, paired with a 20,000 watt xenon flash array that illuminates the subject at a light output sufficient to capture every pore, follicle, and structural asymmetry of the human face at a resolution that has no practical ceiling for identity matching purposes and a meaningful ceiling for the registrant's relationship with their own self-image. The subject is instructed to smile and not blink. The flash duration is shorter than a blink reflex but longer than comfort, which is acceptable because the capture event happens once at enrollment and the image is stored for the lifetime of the subscription. The resulting identity photograph is used for the Identity License, the biometric match database, and the Digital Trap enrollment record. The camera housing is mounted at face height on the So Sure kiosk and features a small countdown light that goes green-yellow-red before the flash, giving the registrant exactly enough time to wonder if they look okay and not enough time to do anything about it.
