Identity verification requires hardware that can read every format the Human Registrar issues without swapping tools.

SOLUTION

The Barcode / RFID Reader is a combined optical barcode scanner and NFC reader module integrated into the So Sure kiosk and available as a standalone handheld unit for field verification contexts. The optical scanner reads 1D barcodes, PDF417 stacks, and QR codes at distances from 5 to 40 centimeters under ambient lighting conditions down to 20 lux, which covers most indoor spaces and some outdoor spaces that probably should have better lighting. The NFC reader operates at 13.56 MHz and detects compliant ISO 14443 tags at up to 10 centimeters, including the RFID Chip affixed to the registrant's backside, which in practice requires the reader to be brought to the chip rather than the chip to the reader, and the documentation simply states that the operator should be prepared for this interaction and maintain professionalism throughout. A successful read returns the identity token to the connected system in under 200 milliseconds. The reader connects via USB-C or Bluetooth 5.2. The handheld unit is orange.
