The operator's face needs to be broadcast to the driver on hardware that is affordable, replaceable, and human-sized.

SOLUTION

The Tablet Holder is a weatherproof locking enclosure sized for standard 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad models, mounting the tablet at face height on the Turn Pike arm assembly with the front camera exposed and screen facing the driver so the live video feed of the operator's face is the first thing the driver sees when they pull up to the booth. The enclosure is a CNC-machined aluminum shell with a tempered glass front panel, sealed gaskets on all seams, and an active heating element behind the tablet to maintain the device within its operating temperature range in sub-zero conditions. A MagSafe-compatible wireless charging coil keeps the tablet charged without a cable port that could admit moisture. The tablet itself is operator-supplied and is not included in the Turn Pike unit price because tablets are available everywhere, are cheap relative to the rest of this system, and get upgraded on a consumer cycle that the Turn Pike hardware does not need to track. The enclosure fits the iPad. That is the specification. Other tablets that are approximately the same size fit with varying degrees of confidence that the documentation does not endorse.
