Electronic Sign

Type: component
PROBLEM

Drivers approaching the toll need to know the fee before they get there and argue about it.

SOLUTION

The Electronic Sign is a full-color LED matrix display panel mounted at approach height on the Turn Pike structure, visible from a minimum of 50 meters in direct sunlight and displaying the current toll fee, accepted payment methods, lane status, and any operator-configured message the toll collector wishes to communicate to approaching drivers from the comfort of their home. The display is controlled from the operator interface and updates in real time, meaning the collector can change the message, display a custom greeting, or show whatever they want within the parameters of the Turn Pike operator agreement. The sign supports plain text, numeric values, and a set of pre-loaded emoji-style graphics for common toll booth communication scenarios. The display is rated for continuous outdoor operation and does not wash out in any documented weather condition. The exclamation point glyph is larger than all other characters by 20 percent and this was a deliberate choice.
