PROBLEM

You have one good leg left.

SOLUTION

Chainsaw Leg is the MTREES terminal joint replacement and continuous material removal platform for operators who have assessed the situation and concluded that the remaining leg is more useful as a delivery mechanism for a motorized cutting chain than as an ambulatory appendage. The knee attachment interface accepts the chainsaw via the universal adapter. The chainsaw does not know it is attached to a leg. The leg does not negotiate. The operator walks toward the problem. The problem is addressed. The walk back is a separate logistical consideration that Chainsaw Leg does not solve and does not apologize for. Chainsaw Leg is inspired by the medical tradition of replacing what is lost with something better, interpreted liberally. The something better is a chainsaw. The chainsaw is attached at the knee. The chain is fine.

components

A motorized cutting chain on a guided bar that removes material continuously until the material is gone or the operator stops, whichever comes first. The chain does not distinguish between what it is supposed to cut and what it is not supposed to cut. That is an operator concern. The chainsaw's concern is the chain. The chain is fine.

EXTENDS

The Knee is the MTREES modular joint attachment platform and anatomical mounting chassis for the human knee — a load-bearing hinge that has been doing its job for the entire lifespan of the patient without documentation, without a warranty, and without a single threaded interface. The Knee addresses this. The attachment point is defined. The adapter accepts what the adapter accepts. The leg continues below. The thigh continues above. The angle between them is the product. The Knee does not replace the existing joint. The Knee augments it with a standardized attachment surface so that future components do not have to negotiate with the bone directly, which has historically been an uncomfortable conversation for everyone involved.

The prototype knee defines the attachment geometry. Variants extend the prototype. The leg is the chassis. The forest grows from the joint."
