PROBLEM

The xenomorph was not going to respond to a standard Boomstick.

SOLUTION

The M41A Pulse Rifle is the MTREES sci-fi theater variant of the Boomstick platform, designed for engagements where the threat is moving fast, is acidic, and has a secondary mouth. The unit fires 10mm explosive-tipped caseless ammunition tracked on an LED round counter mounted above the barrel, which is the only part of the weapon the operator watches because the round counter is more emotionally devastating than anything else on the unit when it hits zero. Underslung 30mm pump-action grenade launcher included for situations where the pulse rifle portion of the program has failed to achieve the desired outcome, which is most situations. The M41A was deployed on LV-426 with a full Colonial Marine complement and returned with fewer users than it left with, which the product team does not mention in the brochure but which the round counter, upon reflection, already knew. Rated for atmospheric processors, ventilation shafts, and the kind of hallway where movement is detected on the tracker but nothing is visible, which is the worst kind of hallway. MTREES cannot guarantee the structural integrity of the surrounding facility during operation. Neither could Weyland-Yutani.

The LCD Display is a 0.96-inch monochrome OLED panel embedded in the upper face of the Rubberized Sleeve, displaying two lines of up to 16 characters each in a font sized for readability at arm's length under construction site ambient lighting, direct sunlight, and the specific squinting posture a person adopts when reading something on a pencil. The display renders voice recognition output in real time as the AI processes incoming audio, committing the recognized text to the screen on a 200-millisecond delay to allow for self-correction of transcription errors before the measurement is committed to memory. Stored measurements scroll on the Number Wheel. Display brightness adjusts automatically between two levels via an ambient light sensor that distinguishes between indoor shadow and direct sun. The display is off by default to conserve power and activates on shake, button tap, or Hey Pencil event. The display will not render, scroll, rotate, or in any way present the numeral sequence 5318008 and will display the message NICE TRY followed by an exception code if a voice input resolves to that value.

Inspect

Addressable LED lighting array distributed across all visible chassis surfaces, shelf edges, and coolant reservoir walls, providing full-spectrum per-zone chromatic output synchronized to system thermal state, audio input, or a preset the operator spent forty-five minutes configuring at 2am. Serves no computational function. Non-negotiable.

EXTENDS

The Boomstick is a double-barreled persuasion branch, retailing for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. Walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. Made in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which the committee notes was also peak industrial design era and refuses to elaborate. The Boomstick is classified as a communication device: it has never needed to be used, only introduced, at which point the meeting reaches consensus and everyone asks where they can get one. Deployed exactly once in corporate history, during the Snurra Reel Works acquisition, where it converted a hostile Swedish board into enthusiastic customers in under a minute. Shop smart.

The mall is not dead. The mall is evolving into something stranger and more defensible. Planet Mall addresses both sides of the retail transaction: the products that facilitate commerce and the products that protect the people facilitating it. Trees here cover the complete spectrum from point-of-sale defensive hardware to retail feedback apparatus to the writing instrument that allows someone to formally register a number on a piece of paper in exchange for a small amount of money. Everything on this planet is designed for high-traffic, low-patience environments where someone is always about to have an opinion about the price."
