PROBLEM

A vessel full of hot chili is too hot to hold with bare hands.

SOLUTION

The Thermal Grip Sleeve is an aerogel-core silicone overmold assembly that encases the exterior shell of the Chili in a Can vessel from base plate to upper body, reducing the contact surface temperature of a fully-charged hot-variant unit from 74 degrees Celsius to a human-safe 38 degrees Celsius grip zone across the full operational temperature range of the contents. The aerogel core provides thermal resistance of approximately R-12 per inch of thickness at a sleeve wall measurement of 6 millimeters, which is thin enough to maintain the overall form factor within one-hand grip diameter for 90th-percentile adult hand geometry. The silicone outer surface is textured with a micro-pyramid pattern for wet-grip performance under condensation conditions typical of cold-variant operation. The sleeve is bonded to the vessel shell at the factory and is not intended to be removed, which was a design decision that generated significant internal disagreement during Phases Fourteen through Sixteen and remains a documented open architectural grievance in the project history.
