Oil Barrel
Type: component
PROBLEM
Used motor oil has nowhere to go in a parking lot and ends up somewhere it should not.
SOLUTION
The Oil Barrel is a 55-gallon double-walled HDPE collection drum mounted on a floor-level saddle bracket at the base of the Truck Pot pole, accepting used motor oil, transmission fluid, and other non-hazardous automotive fluids through a standard 2-inch bung fitting on the top face with a funnel insert rated for fluids up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The outer wall provides secondary containment for the full drum volume in the event of inner wall breach, which is a thing that can happen and is unpleasant when it does. The barrel ships with a fill level indicator strip visible from standing height and a tamper-evident cap that signals when the drum has been accessed between scheduled service pickups. Coordinating the pickup is the lot operator's responsibility and the barrel is very clearly labeled as a thing that needs to be coordinated before it is full, which is the kind of label that gets ignored until it matters.
