PROBLEM

SOLUTION

The Ear Sweat Battery is a galvanic biopotential energy recovery system integrated into the surface of the Rubberized Sleeve at the grip zone that harvests electrical energy from the electrochemical potential difference between the sodium chloride ions in human perspiration and the dissimilar metal electrode array embedded in the sleeve surface, converting transepidermal sweat conductivity into a microwatt-scale continuous charge that maintains the supercapacitor bank in a topped-up state during the periods when the Under Writer is parked behind the operator's ear between measurements, which is where pencils go on a job site and where they stay until the next measurement. Energy output is approximately 15 microwatts per hour of ear contact under standard perspiration conditions, which is enough to extend the kinetic charge by a meaningful fraction and enough to make the engineering team feel good about including it. The electrode array is skin-safe, nickel-free, and calibrated to the pH range of construction worker ear sweat specifically, which required a data collection phase of the research process that nobody involved discusses at conferences.
